Our brother-in-faith and itinerant bluegrass banjo player Frank Shaw, who sadly died on September 21, 2025, wore many hats in his faithful service to FCCB. Probably one of his biggest challenges was the chairmanship of the Killams Point Committee during the years of Hurricane/Storm Irene and Sandy in 2011 and 2012. Regardless of the storms designations when they hit CT, damage to the Killams Point shoreline and buildings was extensive. As his wife Barbara recalls:

I remember when Frank was on that Killams Point committee and all the long, grueling issues and roadblocks. I used to tell him that the place was special and a piece of him would somehow be a piece of his legacy to the church he loved.

As a remembrance of Frank and the church property that he came to love, Barbara and their sons George and Jonathan have commissioned and installed several new additions to Loves Beach. A picnic table, a lifeguard stand and a bench are now available for use by those who come to the beach for a meal, a swim or just to enjoy the salt air. The pieces were built by Dave Janicki, a friend of the Shaw family, who grew up in Branford and now lives in Brooklyn NY.

When you visit Loves Beach, say a prayer of thanks for all that Frankand so many others, as he would quickly point outdid through the years to preserve and protect this beautiful stretch of seashore. And be sure to read the plaque on the bench, it will make you smile.
