Continuing
Christian Education
Bible Buffet
(Biblical Solutions for Life's Challenges)
The Christian Education
Board is offering an assortment of courses designed to cultivate
our appetite for "spiritual food", as we learn how to
apply biblical principles in solving everyday problems.
We will meet on Monday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m., beginning October
6. The program consists of five segments and sign-up sheets for
each individual segment will be in Pilgrim Hall on Welcoming Sunday.
The segments are as follows:
Tony Campolo
Book Study (October thru November)
Tony is a teacher/pastor/author who will be leading a seminar
in this church in November. We will be discussing some of his
books.
Delight your heart and
mind with these weekly presentations to help you get to know Tony
Campolo through readings, videos, and lively discussions.
Internationally-acclaimed preacher and teacher Tony Campolo is
joining us for worship and workshop on Sunday, November 16, and
your CE Board invites and encourages you to "meet Tony"
before his arrival.
Beginning Monday, October 6, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and continuing
for seven consecutive weeks, you'll have the opportunity to explore
Tony Campolo's views and beliefs and discover that evangelical
may mean something altogether different than the way it's been
negatively defined by our secular culture. But perhaps, too, evangelicals
may be part of the problem, as Tony observes, because "Those
issues are biblical issues: to care for the sick, to feed the
hungry, to stand up for the oppressed. I contend that if the evangelical
community became more biblical, everything would change."
To that end, Tony is a herald of the Good News by focusing on
being a Red Letter Christian, desiring to live out with
"radical obedience" the red letters of Jesus' words
in the New Testament, and encouraging others to do likewise.
So please check out our offerings, and come to one or more. Perhaps
you'll find the evangelical in you, too! RSVP by contacting
our Church office.
Tony Campolo, professor emeritus at Eastern University, is
the founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of
Education, an organization that develops schools and social programs
in various third world countries and in cities across North America.
He is the author of 35 books, including, "Letters to a Young
Evangelical," "The God of Intimacy and Action"
and his most recent release, "Red Letter Christians, A Citizen's
Guide to Faith and Politics."

October 27th & November 3rd: Red Letter Christians
Tony Campolo's latest book, Red Letter Christians, A Citizen's
Guide to Faith and Politics, will set the stage for his arrival
on November 16. A great text to explore given much recent press
about candidates and their faith! Copies of the text will be available
for purchase in the Church office and at previous weekly gatherings.
November 10th: Great Preacher Series
What does it mean to be evangelical? We'll watch and discuss this
compelling two-part DVD about Pastor Tony Campolo, and see how
this dynamic man of God shares his genuine love for people through
the dimensions of Faith and the dynamics of Preaching. Discussion
questions include:
How is faith tied to tradition and rituals?
What do we have to guard against when working for God?
Tony's illustrative sermons and stories motivate listeners to
seek a closer relationship with our Creator, God.
